Planet Pointer (“the app”, “we”) is an offline-first star, planet, and satellite finder. We designed it to collect as little as possible. This policy explains what the app accesses, why, and who (if anyone) it is shared with.

The short version

• We do not require an account and do not ask for your name, email, or any personal profile.
• We do not run ads, trackers, or third-party analytics.
• Your camera view is never recorded or sent anywhere. Your location is used only on your device to work out your sky — it is never recorded, never sent to us, and never sent to anyone else.
• We don’t operate any servers that store your data.

Information the app accesses

Location — With your permission, the app reads your device location to calculate where the Sun, Moon, planets, stars, and satellites are in your sky. That calculation runs entirely on your device, and your location is never sent to us — we run no servers and never receive it.

Your location never leaves your device at all. The app does not send your coordinates to any service, ours or anyone else’s — not for maps, not for nearby places, and not to look up the name of where you are. Because of that, the app shows your coordinates rather than a city name.

You may instead set a location manually in Settings, or deny location access altogether — the app works either way.

Camera — With your permission, the app shows the live camera as a background so the on-screen guide arrow lines up with the real sky. The camera feed is shown in real time only. It is not photographed, recorded, stored, or transmitted anywhere.

On-device settings & favourites — Your preferences (units, language, night mode, etc.), your favourites, and any downloaded language packs are stored locally on your device only. Removing the app deletes them.

Network connections

The app makes a small number of network requests for content, not for tracking:

• Satellite orbital data is fetched from CelesTrak to keep satellite tracking accurate. No personal data is sent.
• Optional language packs are downloaded on request from the app’s public code repository on GitHub. No personal data is sent.
• “Learn more” links open educational pages (e.g. NASA, Wikipedia) in your browser, which then applies its own policies.

Purchases

The app offers an optional one-time “Pro” purchase that unlocks additional features. Purchases are processed entirely by the Apple App Store or Google Play using their billing systems — we never see or receive your payment card details. We use RevenueCat to verify and remember whether a purchase was made. RevenueCat receives the purchase receipt and a randomly generated, anonymous app-user identifier; it does not receive your name or email. Children’s privacy

The app is educational and suitable for all ages. It does not collect personal information from anyone, including children, and contains no ads or behavioural tracking.

Data retention & security

Because the app stores its data only on your device, we hold no personal data to retain or delete on our side. Data stays under your control on your device and is removed when you uninstall the app.

Your rights

Since we don’t collect personal data, there is nothing for us to access, export, or delete on request. You can revoke camera or location permission at any time in your device settings, and manage purchases through your App Store or Google Play account.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the “Last updated” date above will change and the new version will be posted at this page.
